It would be the 6th pregnancy of her life. And that with well over 40. And an even older man who can hardly support her. He suggests that the child could be "taken away". The reasons against the baby are too overbearing. For my grandmother, this is a terrible moment. But she plucks up the courage to contradict her husband's wish, and she does so with fierce words: "I'd rather be burned to death". It is a step she takes alone.
Her courage is rewarded. Seven months later, she has a little daughter who will later be my mother.
